The word “Imbizo” comes from the Zulu word meaning “a gathering”. We were excited to host our first official Imbizo on 29 September 2016 at Journeys restaurant in Midrand. The 50 invited guests attended from a number of mostly Government hospitals in the region, including Charlotte Maxeke, Baragwaneth, Rahima Moosa, etc. We discussed a range of topics related to operating theatres such as:
- The history & purpose of gowning and draping
- Different reusable and single use fabrics types
- Draping techniques, which included a comprehensive practical training session
- Surgical instruments and trays.
All the guests were taken on a factory tour of the Priontex manufacturing and processing facility in Midrand.
The feedback from all participants is that the Imbizo was informative and a resounding success. This will certainly not be our last Imbizo!
